The international world of art education
As I’m starting my 4th year of teaching elementary art internationally I’ve decided to start documenting and sharing what I’ve been working on with my students. Since first looking into international teaching I’ve been interested in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Since then I have been reading about all I could find about the IB program as it relates to the visual arts. I found the trend in the states of Project Based Learning and specifically in art- Choice Based Art to be similar in many ways. About a month ago I attended a conference and have been even more impressed by the collaboration, transdisciplinary themes and inquiry based approach to education. These in and of themselves are not special to IB education nor international education, but for a population (teachers and students) that has a tendency to move schools frequently it makes sense on many levels.
